September 10 on ZOOM: Understanding Alzheimers and Dementia: Best Practices for Interactions

This training will offer an overview of the basics of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and describe how dementia can affect behavior and communication. Attendees will learn the importance of practicing person-centered care in working with individuals living with dementia. Videos, case studies and discussion will provide an interactive learning experience for professionals working with older adults who are experiencing homelessness as well as symptoms of dementia. Resources from the Alzheimer’s Association and additional community resources will be provided. This training takes place from 1-3PM CST on September 10. Jenna Pogorels is the Associate Director of Community Services in Northern MN for the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota chapter based out of Duluth, MN. Jenna received her Master in Social Work from the University of Washington, Tacoma, and is licensed as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with the Minnesota Board of Social Work. Jenna has over twelve years of experience working with families in various settings, including hospital/clinic and community organization settings. Jenna has worked with the Alzheimer’s Association since 2013 and has been focused in the areas of dementia program services, including the management of the support group and early stage programming, as well as the development of relationships and community partnerships in greater Minnesota through education and outreach.
