About
Goal planning seems simple enough, right? Identify a goal our client wants, or perhaps something our program requires, make a plan to accomplish the goal, and call it done! Easy peasy. Or is it? Many of us in human services are required to create some form of goal tracking sheet. Although we may feel satisfied, or relieved, when it is completed, our clients often are minimally engaged in the process, lack follow, and the plan lies dormant in our files until it’s time to review it. In this workshop we will address these questions: • Why is it that so often our best laid plans with clients do not lead to successful, meaningful change? • How do we know when it is the right time to set goals? • What can we do when our client is hesitant to make a change? • How does understanding Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs/Motivation support goal planning? • What can we do to support meaningful and personally relevant change?
